On Wednesday, June 1st, 2021, Johnny Depp expressed his gratitude to the jury after winning a defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.
Through an Instagram Post, Johnny Depp mentioned how humbled he is and thanked “all those who have remained steadfast in their support” of him.
In the same post, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor emphasized that the “goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth”.
Johnny Depp ended his statement on a hopeful note, saying: “The best is yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun. Veritas numquam perit. Truth never perishes.”
The actor also shares with fans that he was still in shock, despite winning the case after weeks of trial.
Johnny Depp originally sued Amber Heard for implying that he committed domestic abuse and sexual violence in The Washington Post op-ed, though she never mentioned Depp.
However, Depp claimed that her allegations negatively impacted his ability to work. He then sued Heard for $50 million for defamation from the editorial.

Heard pursued a $100 million counterclaim for defamation after Adam Waldman, Depp’s attorney called her abuse allegations against Depp a hoax.
After a long trial, the jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. On the other hand, Heard was awarded $2 million only in compensatory damages, with no punitive damages.
