Mikel Arteta signs a new Arsenal Contract

It’s official, both the men’s manager and the women’s manager Mikel Arteta and Jonas Eidevall respectively have signed a contract extension with Arsenal football club.

While the Arsenal men’s team is fighting for a place in the Champions League next season, Arsenal women’s team has still a chance to win the league with Jonas’s first season in charge.

Fans surprised at the sudden announcement

All Arsenal fans were left surprised at this announcement after it came out suddenly and out of nowhere as most of the fans were expecting the decision to be made after the season was over and based on if Arsenal would qualify for the Champions League next season or not.

There were also no reports of any news from any of the major outlets about any extension talks between Arsenal and Arteta, let alone finalizing a new deal before the end of the season.

Many of the fans also I am not to behind Arteta as there is a clear split among fans with some of them not backing the current manager and wanting Arsenal to sign and already established manager to replace Mikel Arteta.

Why Arsenal announced the extension so early

To the fans wondering why Arsenal have announced the contract extension or even gave the manager a contract extension currently as opposed to accessing the situation after the end of the season, there is a clear explanation for this.

As reported earlier by mirror, Manchester City have been keeping tabs on the progress of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal and have been impressed by the atmosphere and the rebuild he has achieved at the club.

Especially after the Champions League exit Manchester City and Pep Guardiola failing in the competition yet again, Manchester City see Mikel Arteta as a possible replacement for the current manager should they decide to replace him.

Arteta also has a history with Manchester City when he was working under Pep guardiola as the assistant coach before he decided to take up the Arsenal job, and how he knows the player in the Manchester City squad and how they have all openly admitted that they immensely respect Arteta.

Arsenal announcing the contract even before the season ends could be a huge step in warding off any interest from any current clubs and a sign that they will continue the build under the current manager.

What Arteta has to say about this

Mikel Arteta was quoted saying this after he signed an extension until the end of 2024/25 season

I’m excited, grateful and really, really happy today

When I spoke to Josh he could see the club at the same point and he wanted to take the club the way I wanted to do it. So everything that he’s said, and that Stan has said when I’ve been together with both of them, they’ve always delivered

We want to take the club to the next level and to compete really with the top teams. In order to do that, we have to be playing in the Champions League. We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments, generate even more connection with our fans, improve the atmosphere at the Emirates, be able to recruit top, top talent and the best people for this club to drive this project to that level
