
This just in, Lionel Messi is officially the Ballon D’or winner for 2021 beating the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Jorginho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The PSG striker coma who finally made a move away from his boyhood club Barcelona won the award for the seventh time, making him the player with the most ballon d’ors in history!

In his acceptance speech, Lionel Messi came out and dedicated the previous year Ballon d’Or which was cancelled due to Covid restrictions, saying “I think you deserved to win the award last year, everyone was in agreement that you were the big winner”.

The votes and the points for players
Lionel Messi scored 613 points to take the first place head of Robert Lewandowski who scored 580 points and the third place Jorginho who was far off behind in 3rd place with 460 points
Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United only managed to score 178 points, while Liverpool’s Muhammad Salah scored 121 points.

Now that the Argentinian has achieved his seventh Ballon D’or, let’s take a look at the stats that enabled him to win the award this year.
In the year of 2021, Lionel Messi managed to score 41 goals and also assisted his teammates 17 times, while winning the man of the match award for 28 different times.
He also won the La Liga top goal scorer award and manage to win the Copa del Rey with his boyhood club Barcelona before his departure to the French giants Paris Saint Germain.
In the international stage korma Lionel Messi manage to finally win the Copa America, a trophy that has been awaiting him his entire career.
He also managed to win the top goal scorer award for the Copa America competition and also winning the best player of the tournament.
Lewandowski Robbed??
Majority of the fans on social media outraged by the decision that Robert Lewandowski did not win the Ballon d’Or this year despite having superior numbers and more team accolades than Lionel Messi in 2021.
People have been calling this award rigged ever since Luka Modric who won the award back in 2019 and has been heavily accusing the organization for bias towards the Argentinian.

Robert Lewandowski won the Bundesliga, DFL Supercup, FIFA club World Cup, UEFA super Cup, most goals this year and far more assists than Lionel Messi.
