Ronald Koeman SACKED as Barcelona Manager after a disastrous season

Breaking News : just minutes ago Barcelona officially confirmed that they have sacked Ronald Koeman as the Barcelona manager

The Dutchman is no longer in charge of the Spanish club after Barcelona announce he has been sacked as the first team coach following tonight’s 1-0 loss against Rayo Vallecao.

This and his 14 months charge of Barcelona and two tonight’s was the final straw as Barcelona lost to newly promoted Rayo Vallecao for the first time in 19 years!!

With El Clasico defeat just few days ago and and another following defeat to a newly promoted side in a matter of just few days was enough for Barcelona to make way for a new manager.

Koeman is sacked

Barcelona’s offical statement reads

FC Barcelona has relieved Ronald Koeman of his duties as first team coach. The president of the club, Joan Laporta, informed him of the decision after the defeat against Rayo Vallecano.

Ronald Koeman will say goodbye to the squad on Thursday at the Ciutat Esportiva.

FC Barcelona wishes to thank him for his service to the club and wishing him all the best in his professional career.

Koeman leaves after 14 month in charge with his record of 39 wins, 12 draws and 16 losses in his 67 total games as the manager of the club. Barcelona currently sits at ninth in the La Liga table.

Koeman was only in charge for 67 games

There were rumours circulating that he was going to depart in the summer once the new president was elected, however Koeman manage to stick around after pass event on an unbeaten six games during the start of the league season.

However things went downhill quickly after the 3-0 losses to Bayern Munich and Benfica and just managing 2 to get 15 points from the first 10 games in La Liga including a loss to Real Madrid few days ago.

Search for new manager begins

The current favourite for the position of the manager at FC Barcelona is the club’s own legend Xavi Hernandez, according to Fabio Romanazo, is ready to accept an offer to leave his current job at Qatar’s Al Sadd and ready to take on the reigns as the manager, Xavi has been successful with the management of his current club so far.

Other names such as Antonio Conte, Erik Ten Hag and Belgium’s Roberto Martinez are also in contention for this position.

However according to Fabio, Barcelona all ready made contact with Xavi few weeks ago to enquire about his availability and talks should go forward after the sacking of the recent manager.
